Kaja is feeling much better today, no doubt aided by the waves of good will directed at her from people everywhere. Thanks for that.
I have heard through the cybergrapevine from multiple sources that “due to the extreme reaction in the blogosphere”, Skyhorse will be readjusting the rates that they will be offering the Night Shade authors. The last time I checked, most, if not all, of the “extreme reaction” that had hit the Skyhorse Publications Facebook page was from Girl Genius fans, so I think everybody here deserves a sincere thank you and a well–deserved pat on the back. This is something that will directly aid dozens of authors, not just us, which makes this a better world all around, tra la.
As long as we’re talking about the positive power of crowds, I discovered an interesting group that I thought I should share; The Freelancers Union (http://www.freelancersunion.org/). As far as I can tell, it’s just what it says; a union for those disorganized people who usually don’t have a fraternal organization. I don’t know much about it yet, but it looks interesting. It’s free to join (thus, if it’s a scam, it’s a subtle one). They seem to mostly exist to provide group insurance benefits, which trust me, is a good enough reason right there as far as I’m concerned. They also claim to provide help crafting contracts, and seem to be building a ‘Client Directory’, which is always a useful resource. If anyone has already joined and can speak knowledgeably about these guys, I’m sure there would be quite a bit of interest. I intend to, but it’s always good to get more than one take on things.
In entertainment news, here is something for those, like Kaja and myself, who enjoy a bit of light–hearted science; It is a Facebook page called ‘I Fucking Love Science’ (https://www.facebook.com/IFeakingLoveScience), and it never fails to entertain. Check it out.
